Culinary Villa Guarda Mare

Unlike e.g. in France you can not see in Italy mostly from the street or from the outside, that there (wine) is offered, which is a pity. Often the gates are closed and between 13 and 17 h is usually nothing. So: just ring, even if the gates are closed. After all, everyone is always happy when you’re there. The Maremma (where milk and honey really flows) has so many great things, but the worst marketing I know. In addition, there is the fact that the people there are very quiet and reserved, but what you also, you will see, very sympathetic. Have fun discovering.

Supermarket: In Roccatederighi there is a small but fully equipped COOP supermarket. If you would like to buy good Italian products, COOP is the right choice. Coop has a good selection of organic products in the VIVI VERDE line. On Wednesday afternoon and on Sunday everything is closed in Roccatederighi.

Butcher: There are 2 good butchers in Roccatederighi. Our recommendation: Carlo Salvestroni. Carlo makes a brilliant salami. Deer, deer, wild boar and / or pork, depending on the season. He only uses salt, pepper and vinegar for preservation.

Bakery: A small, very good bakery, the Pasticceria della Rocca just across from Carlo, has a good selection of bread and all sorts of delicious salty and sweet treats besides the classic saltless Pane Toscana. We are very happy that we have such a great bakery in Rocca.

Vegetables & Fruits At Roberta, three houses to Carlo, you get delicious seasonal produce. Mostly organic and from the family’s own cultivation

There are also 2 Deli.

Fish: Every Wednesday at 11 am a chariot of a fishery comes to Roccatederighi. You normally hear the announcement through a megaphone. They always get good reginal fresh fish on fair terms. You may need to search a bit as the location changes. But if you did the tour through the village 2-3 times, you certainly found it. Frozen fish is also available from Carlo at the butchery and the products at COOP are usually better than you might expect.

Bank: There is an ATM in Roccatederighi, the nearest bank is in Roccastrad or in Ribolla

Post: You will find a small post office in the village

pharmacy Rocca has its own pharmacy as well as an ambulance

There are Carabinieri, a garage, a gas station, a pottery, a Tabacchi, and about 10 other shops, 3 bars and 5 restaurants

COOP:  There is one in Roccatederighi, a bigger on is in Ribolla (open on Sundays until 13.00 h) and in Follonica and Grosseto the supermarkets are also open on Sundays mostly all day. The biggest COOP in the area is in the new shopping center Ma Marema. There you will also find many other shops such as Zara, Euronics, ScarpaMondo, Decathlon, etc. as well as the cheapest fuel station.

€ SPIN: An Italian discounter. Good products very cheap. The next one is in Grosseto or in Castiglione della Pescaia.

CONAD: also very good offer, priced similar to Coop

Fish

  • On Wednesday, around 11am, a fisherman comes to Roccatederighi by car. Always fresh, very good quality
  • Tuesday with Roberto at the market in Ribolla
  • Every day until 13h in the market hall of Grosseto
  • In the evening from about 19h on the harbor wall of Castiglione della Pescaia directly from the fisherman
  • Huge selection of local fish in the shopping center Ma Marema in Grosseto

If trip to Monte Argentario: I would lunch at the Fisher Cooperative in Orbetello. Simple, cheap and good. You have to order in advance at the cash desk and everything only Italian.

There in the adjacent store you can also buy good and cheap sustainable fish and get the bottarga (Our caviar) for the best price. Let the fish pack in a box of ice cream. But you have to do it yourself, you get a bio fish, mostly sea bream or sea bass around 15 € per kilo!

You should take Porto San Stefano and Porto Ercole and Talamone as places if it fits in well.

Wineries:

From the house to the right you look directly at the first winery every day – AMPELAIA: organic, very good, especially the Ampelaia

http://www.ampeleia.it/

In the town of Roccatederighi a small cellar of a small winery right in front of the city gate: good and adequate, especially the white wine

CASTEANI is our favorite for everything for good sparkling wine near Gavorrano / Ribolla:

https://www.casteani.it/en/casteani-wines/

The 100% Vermetino Picabon (white) and the 100% Sangiovese Rusada Spumante (rose) are two real surprises

Very close to Casteani, very good, but also a little expensive:

Our favorite in Montecucco (cheaper alternative to Brunello di Montalcino):

IL CIVETTAIO:

http://www.civettaio.it/

At Gregorio great wines, great value for money, all organic:

RED: Il Civettaio: 100% Sangiovese, so unfiltered vegan

ROSE: Chiù: 100% Sangiovese

WHITE: 100% Vermentino

Of course you have to visit Montalcino and the Brunello wineries lying around, definitely: Castello Banfi

If you are eating in Roccatederighi:
Near Da Nada and Il Corso is the most typical food, Da Nada with the best red wine selection. In La Conchiglia fish and seafood and a good white wine selection.
In Garum the best pizza in town.

There is sensational olive oil in the area around Guarda Mare. We recommend shopping at Il Civettaio, where there is both a BIO Cuvee and a single-grade oil at reasonable prices.

Very close, if you are coming from Roccatederighi past Montemassi and do not take the exit to Ribolla comes to the right a farm “Roghi” with farm shop. Also there you get a good oil and also fresh seasonal fruit, such as. Artichokes and beans.

The area is rich in everything you can imagine. There are saffron, truffles, hundreds of pecorinos, buffalo mozzarella specialties. Ask us.
